Event News

We decided to create this page as a means for everyone to keep updated on how we are progressing with the event. When we learn something new and exciting, we will share it with you.

Update: March 5, 2010

We look forward to seeing everyone this weekend. We give a big, no huge, THANK YOU to everyone who kindly gave a donation or sponsorship toward the event this year. We couldn't have done it without your help!

Update: February 23, 2010

We are sorry to announce that The Freedom Transit Trolley will NOT be available during the evening of the event; negotiations fell through. Sorry for any inconveniences.

Update: February 11, 2010

Great News! It looks like we are having the Grand Ball! We are still working out the details but it will be held Saturday evening at the 1863 Inn (formerly the Holiday Inn Gettysburg).

Update: January 31, 2010

THe Gettysburg Cigar Comapany is providing Oliva Cigars for the event and an Oliva Cigar Company representative will be on site and available for questions and conversations.

Update: January 26, 2010

Good News! We have The Pike on board to host the Cigars & Brandy. They may be the only establishment left in Gettysburg that can allow you to enjoy your cigars and brandy together.

On another note, we are still short of our sponsorship goals by about $650. We may have to cancel the Victorian Ball on saturday night if we do not have enough to pay the band and callers. Also, if any of you know someone who is willing to call the dance, please let us know.

Also, we only have 80 seats available for the Ladies tea, so if you wish to attend this year, get your paid $8.00 reservation fee in as soon as possible.

Finally, we are unable to purchase wooden tokens for the event this year, so you will receive a business card sized event pass at the welcome receptions instead. Please keep these passes on you during the weekend as they are your ticket to any of the available discounts and special events. I will open registration this week. I know it is short notice, but we want to have as much of the event available to you as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Update: January 8, 2010

Happy New Year everyone! We have some great news! We have found a venue in Gettysburg that still allows folks to smoke for the Cigars & Brandy event! We are also in negotiations with the 1863 Inn (formerlly the Holdiay Inn of Gettysburg) to host the Ladies Tea and the Grand Ball on Saturday at the Inn. This is wonderful news. The grand ball will be a little smaller than last year, but but soon as we can confirm all the details we will open registration. Don't forget the Ladies Tea will require a $8.00 refundable reservation to hold your seat at the tea.

We also have a new event we are working on -- "Lunch with a Vet" at O'Rourkes. We are stil working on the details, but we are offering WWII reenactors an opportunity to have lunch with a Veteran of WWII. The number of attendees will be limited to this event and will require a refundable reservation fee.

Update: December 16, 2009

On behalf of the Col. Harry W. Gilmor Camp #1388 and the Sons of Confederate Veterans we would like to extend to all Federal and Confederate reenactors the invitation to attend the Annual Lee/Jackson Birthday Ceremony on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Baltimore, Maryland. See our Reenactor Events page to learn more.

Update: December 2, 2009

Good news! We have possibly found a venue that will allow the gentlemen to enjoy their cigars during the Cigar and Brandy social. Keep your fingers crossed. We'll let you know more when we finalize the details.

Also, we are honored to bring to you Susan J. Coffey who will give a talk about what life was like in 1865 through the eyes of Bridget, a servant for the Dr. Samuel Mudd family. Stay tuned for more information about this wonderful talk.

Update: November 23, 2009

On behalf of the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College we would like to thank everyone who participated in the Dedication Day ceremonies!

Also, we would like to break the unfortunate news that we have tried our best to find a smoking venue for the Cigars & Brandy social in March 2010, but have been unsuccessful. Last year, the State of Pennsylvania passed a no smoking law that affects all public eating establishments. And although we will most probably have free cigars from the Olivera family to hand out, you will not be allowed to smoke them during the Cigars & Brandy social. We do hope you will attend the event to enjoy the seminars and pick up your free cigar. We are still working to finalize the location of this event as well as the Ladies Tea. We appreciate everyone's patience with us this year.

Update: October 9, 2009

We have received word from the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College that they are in need of a number of reenactors to attend the Dedication Day ceremonies on Thursday, November 19, 2009.

Dedication Day celebrates the anniversary of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. The ceremony is being held at the Soldiers' National Cemetery with a reading of the Gettysburg Address and a keynote speaker.  If you will be in town for Remembrance Day and would like to participate in the ceremony, please email Tina Grimm at tgrim@gettysburg.edu for more information.

Update: September 28, 2009

We are finalizing arrangements with the Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel to hold the Welcome Reception and Big Band Dance in the Wyndham’s Presidential Ballroom on Friday night. We are still looking for speakers and vendors to full the event tables for Friday and Saturday displays and presentations. So if you want to set up at table ($50 each), see our sponsorship form for details or email us at graw2010@reenactorsrock.com for more information.

The best news, however, is the Guest Packet that the Wyndham has put together for those of you who want to with them at their wonderful hotel for weekend. They are offering an overnight stay for $99 a night! A guest will receive Free admission to the Big Band Dance on Friday evening, a specially prepared menu in the 1863 Restaurant, a discount on breakfast, fee tickets to see “Fields of Freedom” and special discounted tickets for the Gateway Theater.

Check out the coupon for this special Guest Packet (pdf). (Coupon in jpg format.) Make your reservation by February 12, 2010 and use coupon code RA-T001 to secure your stay at the Wyndham Gettysburg. Remember the Freedom Transit Trolley will be available for your convenience.

Update: September 22, 2009

You asked we listened! In an effort to provide fun, educational activities for our youngest reenactors we have the following activity available for their participation. Strawberry Hill which is a nature reserve as well as a resource for teaching our youngsters about how nature creates things is offering "Maple Sugaring." This is a hands-on seminar about where maple syrup comes from. Your child will be able to "tap" the tree and watch as the gooey syrup pours from the tree. Grownups are welcome and encouraged to participate as well. Strawberry Hill is offering a group discount to those who wish to attend. It will be first come first serve. More details to follow. Email us at graw2010@reenactorsrock.com and let us know if you are interested.

Update: August 11, 2009

We are in negotiations with the Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel to hold our Welcome Reception and Friday Night WWII Big Band Dance in their grand ball room. They have graciously offered us not only the use of the ball room, but use of two other rooms for speakers as well as merchant/vender tables. In addition, we hope to reserve a large block of rooms at a generously discounted rate with other weekend perks included for their guests attending the event in 2010. More information will follow when their offer is confirmed.

Update: August 2, 2009

We are in negotiations with the Avenue Restaurant to sponsor The Gettysburg Big Band for the Friday evening WWII Big Band Dance. More information will follow.

Update: August 2, 2009

We held a special luncheon as a thank you to our 2009 volunteers. The luncheon was prepared by the Avenue Diner. The lunch fare included wonderful sandwiches, delicious ham soup, a fruit and cheese platter, drinks, and a slice of either cherry or apple pie. We also had a drawing for a handful of giveaways and each volunteer received an appreciation certificate for there assistance during the 4th annual event. We plan to make this an annual luncheon for the volunteers the same weekend as the event each year.

Update: June 14, 2009

Due to budgetary constraints, we have had to make the difficult decision of putting a fully refundable reservation fee of $8.00 each in place to hold your seat for the Ladies Tea this coming year. Please understand that we made this change to ensure a more accurate count of participants in order to keep ourselves from over-budgeting the costs Tea. Each person will get a full refund when they arrive at the Tea on Saturday so remember to bring your confirmation receipt with you to the Tea.

Update: May 1, 2009

We’ve joined the Gettysburg Convention and Visitors Bureau (GCVB). We decided to join the GCVB as a means of networking and expanding our ability to reach folks who might be interested in our event but haven’t heard of it yet. The GCVB has member throughout Adams County, PA and well beyond.
